Microsoft has promised to invest a minimum of $1 billion in developing four data centers in North Carolina’s Catawba County. The company plans to spread the investment over the next 10 years. According to county officials, Microsoft will invest in the data centers in Maiden, Hickory, and Conover. In addition, the company is expected to create up to 50 jobs with the data center development.

Microsoft will also be getting juicy tax breaks from the county through 10 years of development grants. The director of community management at Microsoft, Paul Englis, said: “Today’s announcement is just the start of our mutual partnership and Microsoft’s long-term commitment to the local community.”

City leaders of the designated data center locations agreed to grant Microsoft incentives of up to 50 percent in real property tax and 85 percent in personal property tax.
