Microsoft to expand cloud offering in Luxembourg

Microsoft is planning to expand its cloud computing services in Luxembourg through its Microsoft Belux (Belgium-Luxembourg) department. This will give Luxembourg-based customers access to Microsoft's cloud computing offerings while maintaining data sovereignty and reducing latency.

In a report by Delano, Microsoft's Luxembourg country manager Sébastien Respaut is quoted saying that the company has been working on the project for just over three years, and the first goal is to install an "entry point to the Microsoft network on Luxembourg soil," noting that currently customers have to connect via Frankfurt, Amsterdam, or Paris.

Following that, Microsoft will set up "an infrastructure managed entirely by Microsoft."Respaut added: "The data will be hosted in a data center in Luxembourg. As a general rule, Microsoft does not disclose the location of its data centers. But I must stress that the data and metadata will be in Luxembourg, and will be operated under what are known as EU Data Boundaries."
