Microsoft Azure: Microsoft plans to build 980,000 square feet data center in Douglasville, GA

As part of its East US 3 Azure data center region, Microsoft wants to develop close to 1 million square feet of data center buildings in Douglasville, Georgia. Earlier in the year, Microsoft announced its plans for a new US Azure region. At the time of the announcement, the Company said it would be building the region in Fulton and Douglas Counties. The Company also bought 93 acres of land in Douglasville, Douglas County, for $13.8 million to build the US Azure region.

Microsoft has now applied with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to develop data centers in Georgia. The project will see the Company develop four 245,000 sq feet’ technology facilities’ on a 150-acre land. Also, the project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

The facility is likely to impact the local area heavily due to its size. In light of this, the project is subject to more review processes as local officials will consider the project’s effect on infrastructure and traffic.
