Italy: Microsoft partners with defense company Leonardo to offer cloud services to Italian public sector

Microsoft is partnering with Leonardo, an Italian defense group, to provide Italy’s public sector and critical infrastructure providers with cloud services. The deal will see Leonardo offer cybersecurity services and act as a System integrator while Microsoft will provide a cloud platform and high-performance computing offerings. Italy plans to set up a cloud framework for the country’s public sector. This national framework will consist of a mixture of both local businesses and foreign cloud providers. However, the data will be stored locally.
Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo, commented that the Company is committed to protecting the data of Italians and that of the public administration. He also said Microsoft’s advanced technological capabilities would help the Company achieve the protection of this data.
