Microsoft Azure: Microsoft makes pledge to run all data centers carbon neutral by 2030

Microsoft is the latest company to pledge carbon-neutrality by 2030. Within the next 19 years, the tech giant promises to run all its global data centers and offices with zero-carbon energy.

In a recent blog, written by Lucas Joppa, chief environmental officer and Noelle Walsh, CVP, cloud operations + innovation, said that not only is the company “tracking” the climate change conversation, but “engaging” with it too.

This engagement comes in the form of its 100/100/0 vision, whereby by 2030, Microsoft will have 100% of its electricity consumption, 100% of the time, matched by zero-carbon energy purchases.

According to Joppa, the company’s “influence” is already “significant” in one dimension. He writes: “Our existing commitment to execute power purchase agreements equivalent to 100% of our energy needs by 2025 has positioned Microsoft as one of the largest purchasers of renewable energy in the world.”
