Following news that Microsoft has acquired over 30 more acres of land in Chicago, Illinois, it is believed that the giant will be expanding its data center presence in the region.

The land, purchased for $41.5 million, is reportedly set to house two 207,000-square-foot (19,230 sqm) data centers. Hoffman Estates Council shared these expansion plans but has not yet received a specific proposal which outlines the intended land use.

A report by The Real Deal, has outlined that part of the land it purchased was originally owned by Meije, a retail chain, and remained undeveloped. Meanwhile, the other site, previously owned by an LLC under the address of the Prairie Ridge Development Group, includes a 250,000-square-foot (23,225 sqm) industrial property.

No details have yet been shared on whether the company intends to convert or demolish the building.
