Microsoft has launched preliminary plans for a large data center complex near the corner of Component Drive and Orchard Parkway in San Jose, after it bought the plot back in 2021.
According to Santa Clara County property records, the giant paid $78.7 million for the 21.3-acre site. Jonathan Fox, a city planner, told Mercury News: "The preliminary proposal only included a project scope to construct two five-story data center buildings" at the location.
The Orchard and Component site purchase is now Microsoft's second large purchase of empty land in north San Jose.
