United States: Lonestar to transmit US Declaration of Independence to Lunar-based mini data center and back

Oct 11, 2023 | Posted by Abdul-Rahman Oladimeji

Lonestar Data Holdings recently revealed its plans to transmit the US Declaration of Independence to the lunar surface as the first document in history to be stored digitally on the Moon. This is a test of its lunar data centers concept for Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS).

This mission, dubbed IM-1, is scheduled for launch in six days, starting November 16. If all goes according to plan, the lander is expected to commence a five-day journey to the Moon and orbit for a day before landing at Malapert Crater, about 300 kilometers from the Lunar South Pole.

Lonestar plans to transmit this document three times: during the transit, while it is in orbit, and finally after it has landed. It will then send back a copy from the Moon to Earth.

Chris Stott, founder and CEO of Lonestar Data Holdings, said, "We are thrilled to be at the forefront of this historic moment in data storage and recovery. Transmitting the US Declaration of Independence to the Moon is a testament to the reliability and resilience of our Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solutions."
