Iron Mountain: Iron Mountain inks deal for 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) electricity procurement

Iron Mountain has announced that, through a partnership with RPD Energy, it has made a "landmark series of transactions" meaning that the company will obtain 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) electricity procurement. The US renewable provider RPD Energy will be the lead architect of renewable energy solutions enabling this.

According to Chris Pennington, Director of Energy and Sustainability at Iron Mountain Data Centers, previously, 100% renewable energy claims that the company has made, like other companies, have left a lot of carbon on the grid. This kind of electricity procurement will enable companies to certify their claims.  The company said that it had made the deal  on behalf of its colo customers who are unable to make their own utility agreements for power and rely on the power agreements signed by Iron Mountain.

He added: "Businesses today are increasingly focused on decarbonizing across their full value chain. As a critical component of our customers' supply chain we are able to demonstrate our ability to help them achieve their carbon reduction goals through transactions like these."
