Iron Mountain Data Center has filed for a permit to expand its Manassas data center campus in Prince William County, Virginia and is seeking a federal and state permit for a new data center on land west of Route 234 and east and north of Wellington Road in Prince William County.

The new building will span 165,428 sq ft (15,369 sqm) across two stories. According to the permit application, it would impact 0.19 acres of palustrine forested wetlands and 280 feet of stream channel.

The notice states that the Corps will only issue a permit if "all wetland and stream impacts have been avoided and minimized to the maximum extent practicable." Iron Mountain has also proposed purchasing 0.38 wetland credits and 286 stream credits from the Whitewood Farm Mitigation Bank, LLC, to reduce its impacts.

Iron Mountain's Manassas campus currently spans 142 acres. Up to nine facilities totaling more than 2 million sq ft (185,805 sqm) and 280MW are planned on the site, while five are currently operational and two more are in development.
