GDS has established a joint venture with the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), the country's sovereign wealth fund. In order to test fuel cell power supply options for its upcoming data center in Singapore, the company is also collaborating with SK Ecoplant.
This week, the Chinese data center company and INA unveiled plans for a new equity joint venture to develop a nationwide data center infrastructure. The first project to be finished is the ongoing construction of a campus of hyperscale data centers in Nongsa Digital Park (NDP), Batam.
In November 2021, GDS acquired land in the Nongsa Digital Park. The company intends to construct two new data center structures on the site, with a total net floor area of approximately 107,600 square feet and a total IT power capacity of 28 megawatts (MW).
In addition, GDS and INA have stated that they will collaborate closely to develop world-class data center facilities nationwide. The only sovereign fund in Indonesia, INA, was established in late 2020 with $5 billion from the government. INA previously participated in Mitratel's initial public offering and is a significant shareholder in Southeast Asia's largest telecommunications tower owner.
