Japanese ISP Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) has announced its sustainability efforts with the installation of a 336kWp rooftop solar power system at its Shiroi data center campus in Chiba Prefecture. The solar panels, primed to generate approximately 373MWh annually, 3 percent of the facility's needs, are located atop the data hall and administrative buildings, and became operational this month.
The project is set to be replicated across the company's data center portfolio, including at IIJ's Matsue data center park in Shimane Prefecture, and on the phase two server building of the Shiroi DCC. The latter, while currently under construction, is scheduled to become operational in July 2023.
