At the recent Top 10 Trends of Data Center Facilities conference, Huawei revealed its insights into emerging trends in the data center industry. With the theme of "Smart DC, Building the Green Future," the conference highlighted that to accommodate the exponential growth of data demand, which will require further growth in the data center construction arena, energy conservation, carbon emission reduction, and green transformation, must be prioritized.
In alignment with this, the conference outlined that key trends would include data centers adopting green and low-carbon solutions, utilizing renewable energy sources to power operations. It shared that by the year 2027, green power utilization will account for more than 50%. It was also highlighted that waste heat recovery and other energy conservation solutions will be implemented further. Sustainability was also underlined as a continued trend in the space, and the company shared that new sustainability indicators will be introduced in addition to PUE, including:
- Renewable energy utilization,
- Water usage effectiveness (WUE),
- Carbon usage effectiveness (CUE),
- Space usage effectiveness (SUE),
- Grid usage effectiveness (GUE),
- Material recovery rate, and
- Lifetime contaminant emissions.
Also identified as key trends were fast deployment, elasticity, prefabrication, storage and backup integration, distributed cooling, smart O&M and security and trustworthiness.
