After breaking ground on its new Slough-based campus in January, KKR-funded Global Technical Realty (GTR) has announced that it plans to launch the site before summer 2023. The $1 billion campus, GB One, comprises three independent facilities, each providing 5373 sqm of net technical space and a 13.5MW IT load.
Having launched its first building in October 2022, it now plans to have block one completed by the fourth quarter of 2023.
The company has shared that sustainability has been a key feature throughout planning and construction, focusing on ensuring the minimal waste of resources in building.
Construction presently is responsible for an estimated third of the world's overall waste and at least 40% of the world's CO2. Increasingly data center developers are putting greater emphasis on cutting construction waste. This has been demonstrated by the likes of Meta with its Gallatin data center mushroom project.
Operations will also be powered with renewable energy, and according to the company, it's also evaluating the use of HVO for its generators.
"We are now designing, building and project managing huge and complex developments in very different times, and they are not without challenges," said Franek Sodzawiczny, founder and CEO at Global Technical Realty.
"Our supply chain has become increasingly mission critical over the past few years and, in some instances, we are carefully tracking components that are 24 months out from delivery to site. It's this attention to detail that will ensure our success," Sodzawiczny added.
