GTD pulled from a non-binding offer previously accepted from investment firm Macquarie Capital. The transaction would have involved purchasing 49 percent of a new subsidiary encompassing the telecommunications company's data centers in Chile, Peru, and Colombia. Fernando Gana, the general manager of GTD Grupo Teleductos, reported to the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF) that after getting non-binding signs of value, the board of directors of the company, in a special meeting held on June 20, 2023, decided not to pursue the transaction, which has been disclosed to Macquarie (Chile) SpA, thus concluding negotiations with that entity.
GTD, which was established in 1980, maintains six data centers in Chile, Colombia, and Peru, including three in Santiago, one in Peurto Montt, and one each in Medellin and Lima. In addition, the corporation intends to construct facilities in Lurn, Peru, and Barranquilla, Colombia, as part of a five-year, $600 million investment strategy. GTD was looking for a minority investment partner for its data center enterprise, and according to reports, 25 parties were interested. In March of this year, the telecommunications company accepted Macquarie's offer for 49 percent of the business, although the terms were not disclosed.
Among Macquarie's investments in data centers are AirTrunk, Virtus, NTT, and Aligned, which recently acquired Odata from Brazil.
