Globe Telecom has revealed that it is in advance discussions with STT Telemedia Global Data Centres about forming a data center joint venture in the Philippines. The plan is to expand Globe Telecom’s Globe DC data center business in the Philippines. The company announced that the exclusive agreement would see STT GDC and Globe enter into discussions with a goal to sign agreements related to Globe DC. The discussions between the two companies are far from final, but Globe is optimistic that an agreement can be reached.
Globe DC has been in the business of data center operations since 2001. It also operates a minimum of three data centers in Manilla and one in Davao City in the Philippines. President of Globe, Ernest L. Cu, said the Philippines is positioned to capture the growing global demand for data centers. He noted that combining its extensive customer reach and great track record with STT GDC’s operational expertise will put the company in a great position to be the top data center firm in the Philippines.
Globe expects to remain a significant shareholder when it completes the joint venter deal with STT GDC. Aside from that, Globe noted that its data centers have a potential midterm capacity of up to 45MW.
