A fire has started at the Glenside Data Centre in Adelaide, Australia. Among other government services, the event led to the failure of South Australia's state hospitals' electronic medical records system. The primary data center for the state government is located in Glenside. The electrical fire was first put out before fire personnel arrived at 9:45 a.m. local time. By 5 p.m. local time, Adelaide Now reported that the systems were still down. Per Dr. Eva Balan-Vnuk, executive director and state information officer for the Government of South Australia, the data center's cooling system was damaged by an electrical incident. According to Balan-Vnuk, the cooling system should get electricity overnight. The 'electrical incident precise cause is still unknown. Digital Health SA informed hospital staff members that the fire significantly impacted SA Health systems and apps, including Sunrise EMR & PAS.
The Royal Adelaide Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital, and Modbury Hospital are all affected by the outage, which prevents access to medical data and doctor's notes. The fire, according to a representative for SA Health, has created difficulties with some systems & connectivity throughout the network, including with the electronic health record system. It is unknown which data center these apps will be transferred to. Along with the health records, several ICT services provided by the South Australian government have also been disrupted; however, in the words of Balan-Vnuk, no significant adverse outcomes have been identified. However, some systems may be operating slower than usual.
