A planned data center project in Haines City, Florida, is facing delays due to limited water capacity. Local reports say Cielo’s proposed 300MW campus, planned for a 74-acre site along Marion Road and State Road 544-East, could require up to 150,000 gallons (681,913 liters) of water per day.
Haines City has been experiencing rapid growth, putting pressure on its water infrastructure. The city has been seeking approval from the Southwest Florida Water Management District to increase its water allocation since 2022. Officials said the city can currently produce 10 million gallons of water per day and uses slightly more than seven million. Haines is seeking to raise its permit to 16.42 million gallons daily, including an additional 150,000 gallons for Cielo’s proposed data center.
Cielo approached Haines City officials about the proposed data center last year, but no formal development application has been submitted. The company did not comment on the project. Founded in 2023, Cielo was previously backed by Texas-based Arroyo Investors, which marked its investment as realized in March 2026. The company is targeting data center developments across several US states, including South Carolina, Texas, and Iowa, and previously worked on a Virginia campus later acquired by Edgecore.
