Surfline Communications, a Ghanaian 4G LTE company, has been compelled to close its data center and radio access network (RAN) due to financial difficulties. The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana revealed to the Daily Graphic that the company was experiencing significant financial difficulties.

Joe Anokye, the director general of the NCA, stated that Surfline notified them in writing that they were closing their data center. Before that, they informed them that their radio access network would be cut down due to cost. The NCA is reportedly in the process of drafting a press release to explain Surfline's problems, but Anokye described it as a "major liquidity issue" in which the company was experiencing difficulties with a number of its vendors.

By closing down its data center and wide area network, Surfline's entire network went offline. In an update on its official website, Surfline said: “Please be assured that Surfline management is working very hard with all stakeholders to resolve the matter. It goes without saying that the validity of your data bundle will be extended proportionally, once the network is up again. Surfline will also ensure that you, as our cherished customers, are compensated for all the inconvenience.”

According to the NCA, Surfline held approximately a 25.4% share of the Ghanaian fixed broadband market with 35,796 Broadband Wireless Access subscriptions at the end of last year. The company was founded in 2011. According to RocketReach, Surfline generated $90 million in revenue in 2021.
