In Racine County, Microsoft's $1 billion data center campus in Wisconsin has been given the go-ahead by The Racine County Board of Supervisors after initially receiving Village Board approval. As per the deal, the tech giant will begin the first phase of construction by July 2026, with the second phase commencing by July 2033. Failure to do so will result in the land being opened back up for purchase by Racine County or Mount Pleasant. This follows Foxconn's failure to make good on its previous development promises.

Racine County Supervisor Tom Kramer called the deal "a dream," while Paul Englis, global director of community research and engagement for Microsoft, called it a "perfect parcel of land." The former also highlighted that the green light means that 315 acres are now back "on the tax roll. "And the company that's putting it there is an internationally known company,"  Kramer added.

Matt Mauntamuro, CEO of Racine Area Manufacturers and Commerce, commented: "I look forward to the opportunity for our member businesses to partner and collaborate with Microsoft as they enter Racine County."

Proponents of the development in the county have shared hopes that alongside job creation, Microsoft's presence will also see investment in local communities and businesses.
