Ericsson launches dedicated federal 5G units in US

Mar 21, 2024 | Posted by Abdul-Rahman Oladimeji

Ericsson has launched an entity dedicated to delivering 5G services for multiple agencies in the US federal government. This is in its aim to support state and federal government entities to boost services and natural security, plus US defense modernization programs.

“Connecting individuals, businesses, and national security depends on secure, reliable, and resilient 5G infrastructure," said Yossi Cohen, president and head of Ericsson North America. "We are excited to build on existing projects with the US government including the DoD where Ericsson provides the foundation for multiple 5G prototype deployments and expand into additional government agencies with our innovation and leadership.”

The vendor noted that it meets USG requirements for 5G networks, including support for Open RAN-ready technologies and equipment made in the USA from its Texas-based USA 5G Smart Factory. It will be led by Christopher Ling, who has previously worked at Booz Allen Hamilton, an American government and military contractor.
