Equinix has finally announced the opening of its fifth data center in Singapore. The SG5 data center is a nine-story facility built with $144 million in Tanjong Kling, which used to be known as the Singapore Data Center Park. Besides, the nine-story facility is the tallest data center in the data center hub.
Phase one of the facility has over 41,000 square feet of colocation space and an initial capacity of 1,300 cabinets. Upon full buildout, the facility will provide 5,000 cabinets and a total colocation space of 129,000 square feet. Like all the Equinix facilities in Singapore, the SG5 facility will be connected to the other data centers via dark fiber.
According to Equinix, the facility was built to help meet the demand for sustainable, future-ready digital infrastructure. The facility also uses recycled water for its operations. Aside from that, SG5 also uses a tailored surface cooling technology to support high-density customers and reduce power and water consumption needs.
