Empyrion DC has begun construction on its first data center in the Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul, South Korea. The 40MW facility, located in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, will be the first to be built in the Gangnam region since around 2011. Interestingly enough, this is when Psy's song Gangnam-Style made the trendy neighborhood momentarily famous worldwide.

The nine-story, 330,615-square-foot building is scheduled to open in H1 2025. The building will also feature photovoltaic solar modules on its exterior. Empyrion, situated in Singapore and entirely owned by funds managed by Seraya Partners, is a new entrant in the market. In August of 2022, the company first announced intentions for a Seoul facility.

Together with the Malaysian conglomerate YTL, it bought a stake in Dodid Pte. Ltd. and its 12.5MW data facility in Singapore in December 2021. Seraya, Empyrion's parent company, is a fund manager with an emphasis on Asia who makes investments in renewable energy, hyperscale data centers, and energy transition opportunities. Empyrion plans to enter other Asian markets, including Taiwan in Taipei and Indonesia in Jakarta.
