Digital Edge has announced that its first Philippines facility, located in Binan Laguna, Manila, is ready for service, and will offer 10 MW of capacity with 2,200 cabinets. Named the Narra 1 data center, it will provide colocation and interconnection services to the region and is a joint project between Digital Edge and the Threadborne Group. The two companies invested $100m into the project.

Like many new facilities in the data center space, this data center has green features integrated into its core, is allocated a PUE of <1.2 and pegged to be carbon-neutral by 2030. Further to this, the data center will source at least half of its power from renewable sources by 2025. The facility will also utilize Nortek’s patented StatePoint Liquid Cooling (SPLC) technology, which is reportedly the system best suited to the micro-climate typical in Biñan and Sta Rosa.

Raymond Rufino, Principal for Investments and Real Estate of the Threadborne Group said that by incorporating such features into the design of the facility, it enables the two companies to support the growth of the digital economy without compromising their environmental responsibilities, and ESG principles.

Speaking about this development, in a LinkedIn post, Digital Edge said: “Special thanks to our partners the Threadborne Group and all those involved in bringing this groundbreaking project to life. Manila, we are ready for you!”

Vic Barrios, Country Manager for Digital Edge in the Philippines commented:“We see significant growth potential in the Philippines and are the first regional data center player to open for business in the market. We want to be the shining gold standard for the industry when it comes to green, sustainable data centers, and we hope NARRA1 will set the example for the Philippines and beyond."
