DCI Data Centers has revealed plans for a second facility in Auckland, New Zealand. According to the New Zealand Herald, Australia’s DCI Data Centers has acquired a five-hectare land to develop a 40MW data center. The facility will be called AKL02. DCI also plans to spend up to $600 million (~US$402m) on the data center development. The company is expected to start work on the facility in the middle of 2022. The data center is also scheduled to come online in 2024.
The company revealed its first data center in New Zealand last year. DCI also said the 10MW facility would be the second single data center in the country. Both facilities in the country are expected to have a total economic value of more than $1.4 billion. In addition, each facility will generate over 150 employment opportunities during construction. A further 250 jobs would also be created in IT and telecommunications when the data centers come online.
