Data4, a French data center company, will open a new facility in Hanau, Germany. P3 Logistic Parks, a European logistics real estate business financed by GIC, revealed plans for a massive data center campus on the grounds of a decommissioned army barracks in Hanau, east of Frankfurt, last year.
Data4 has acquired the roughly 20-hectare plot of land from P3 and plans to construct its own data center facility there. The deal's specifics were not released.
The establishment of an innovative and sustainable data center complex in Hanau, according to Data4 CEO Olivier Micheli, will serve both the regional and local communities. Data4 sees significant market prospects in Germany, one of Europe's digital infrastructure leaders, and has lofty goals for the Hanau campus, ultimately becoming one of the biggest data center facilities in Germany and Europe. P3 acquired the old Großauheim barracks in Hanau, west of Frankfurt, from the Institute of Federal Real Estate in July 2022 and announced plans to create the P3 Datacenter Hanau data center complex on the 2.7 million sq ft site.
Over a period of 10 years, at least eight data center modules will be constructed over a building area of about 2.1 million square feet; the facility will have an electrical supply of 180 megawatts. Data4 has not indicated if it would alter the site's design but has stated that it will invest $1.09 billion in the development.
