Due to ongoing losses and impending debt maturities, struggling Cyxtera issued a Chapter 11 bankruptcy claim last month. The company is seeking a buyer or potential investor. As part of the procedure, the company turned down the lease at the Stack-owned facility on Touhy Avenue in the Elk Grove neighborhood of Chicago.
The single-story facility known as ORD3-A and ORD3-B is home to two data centers with a combined capacity of 3.5MW and 27,000 sq ft. Cyxtera plans to suspend business at this data center on September 4, 2023, and decline the lease.
The Stack facility as a whole provides 13 MW across 221,000 square feet. CHI01 was formerly a T5 facility that IPI inherited in 2019 when the company was founded. T5 acquired it from IT integrator Forsythe Technology in 2016, one year after its opening. Cyxtera operates two additional data facilities in Chicago: ORD1 at the Digital Realty-owned 350 East Ceramak carrier hotel and ORD2 at the former Exodus/Savvis-owned facility located at 2440 Busse Road.
Cyxtera has turned down leases at CyrusOne and Serverfarm-owned centers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Moses Lake, Washington, since the beginning of the bankruptcy process.
