Compass Datacenters: Compass Datacenters To Develop 48MW Data Center Campus in Milan, Italy

Compass Datacenters has announced the acquisition of and in Milan. The company partnered with real estate firm Hines to acquire the property for the development of a 48MW data center campus. The move sees Compass venture into Europe for the first time. The land acquired by the two companies spans 210,000 square meters (2.3 million square feet). It is located in Noviglio, about 14KM southwest of Milan. The data center will also be Hines’ first facility on the continent. Construction of the data center is scheduled to start in 2023.
According to Corriere della Sera, a logistics firm and land developer, Develog will help deliver the deal. In addition, the data center is expected to be expanded beyond the planned 48MW to 100MW. The President of Compass Datacenters, AJ Byers, said: “Building our first European campus in Milan is a major step in Compass’ global expansion strategy. Its geographic location, undersea cable connectivity, robust fiber availability, and affordable power makes it an ideal location for hyperscalers.” He continued by saying: “Hines’ vision for Italy aligns with our own, and our combined resources should accelerate the timeline for customer availability.”
