It has been confirmed that Compass Data Centers is one of the companies that is involved in the Prince William Digital Gateway Project in Virginia, a plan that is steeped in controversy and would see over 2,000 acres of land in the County used for data center construction. If the plan is given the green light, 27 million square feet of development will go ahead.
According to a report by InsideNoava, the company has filed with the County to rezone 824.9 acres across 103 properties along Pageland Lane, and is seeking to build 10.52 million square feet of data centers within the decade.
The properties which the company is applying to rezone, include agricultural and semi-rural residential zoning and a planned business district, which it says is appropriate due to it sitting “either under or adjacent to existing high-voltage electric transmission lines, and fiber optic corridors, that are critical to data center operations.”
