Chindata recently held a ‘strategic dialogue’ with the Climate Group, where the two explored digital infrastructure in supporting global growth and the role internet technology companies must play in reducing carbon emissions. In addition to this, the meeting saw Alex Ju, founder and CEO of Chindata Group, and Helen Clarkson, CEO of the Climate Group, discuss the upcoming 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).
Chindata recently joined the RE100 initiative and committed itself to utilizing zero-carbon computing power. In the meeting, Ju and Clarkson talked about how members of the RE100 initiative will drive the global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
Chindata Group outlined its own individual roadmap to green and highlighted some of its current efforts and initiatives. This included direct green power trading, innovative regional green power consumption mechanisms, the development of renewable energy power stations, and the development of integrated power generation-grid-load-storage projects.
So far, the company has reportedly procured a total of 540.2 million kWh of green power in nationwide and regional green power transactions. This has helped the company reduce roughly 509,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents.
