BNP Paribas, a long-time client of atNorth, is still shifting some of its operations to the Nordic region. By doing so, BNP Paribas will be able to meet the increasing need for high-performance, data-intensive IT workloads. BNP Paribas' drive to update and expand its high-performance computing server farm to atNorth's Nordics data centers continues with the transfer of another portion of its IT burden to the atNorth data center in Sweden. The initial relocation to Iceland in 2018 increased overall capacity by about 30%, cut energy use by more than 50%, and lowered CO2 emissions by 85%. BNP Paribas is decreasing its carbon footprint and sustainably future-proofing its IT infrastructure by shifting extra workloads to the atNorth location in Sweden.
AtNorth has been crucial in assisting BNP Paribas ensure that their IT operations are as sustainable and carbon free as possible, an endeavor that is currently close to the core of their company, according to Alexis Carrion, CIB Global Head of Data Centers, BNP Paribas. The data center for atNorth in Sweden was constructed with heat recovery in mind and has been engineered to have as little of an environmental impact as feasible. Up to 85% of the electricity used in the center can be used at the site to generate heat, which is then transferred to the central district heating system to generate heat and hot water for the neighborhood. According to Gisli Kr, CSO atNorth, their collaboration with BNP Paribas is very well aligned with atNorth's goal of providing large-scale sustainable compute facilities. BNP Paribas has once again shown leadership in reducing its ecological footprint and emphasis on accountable IT deployments with this latest initiative.
