Data center businesses are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious, realising that sustainability must be at the core of the industry going forward. As a result, green data center projects are on the rise. A recent study conducted by Beroe found that the global market for green data center construction projects is to grow quite significantly over the next few years.

In its study, Beroe says that green building technology alludes to construction projects in a "sustainable, responsible, and eco-friendly way, from the stage of planning and acquisition to design, architecture, and construction." These kinds of construction projects, it says, are to rise by 10% CAGR between 2019 and 2022. Promisingly, this doesn't just apply to economically wealthy countries either and is a trend that can be applied worldwide.

Gayathri Murali, a senior research analyst at Beroe, says that going forward, sustainable construction in the industry will be a "game-changer" and one that brings with it "plenty of advantages." Murali says that it has the power to accomplish different global objectives on the environmental, social and economic front. This is especially true considering that currently, construction is responsible for 40% of the worldwide energy usage, 23% of air pollution and 40 % of water pollution. "Economic green buildings deliver financial returns that incorporate work creation, high property estimation for building engineers, low development expenses, and cost investment funds," said Murali.

Adding: "The cross-cutting categories of site selection, water conservation, energy efficiency, use of renewables, and interior environmental quality will play a predominant role in this sustainable makeover."

The report outlined that consolidating energy-efficient landscaping into the overall data center design is incredibly important. Moreover, when discussing green building technologies, it suggested that a fall in prices and government support will further "push this growth" towards sustainability.
