The Bahraini technology company Beyon Group intends to invest $250 million in two undersea cables and a new data center. The company announced this week that its telecommunications subsidiary Batelco had joined the SEA-ME-WE 6 consortium (Southeast Asia – Middle East – Western Europe). Batelco will also invest in constructing a new regional subsea cable, the Al Khaleej cable, which it will own. Data Oasis, a new technology location with a newly constructed data center, was also announced.

The new data center will be constructed on a 1.5 million square foot site in southern Bahrain. Location and specs were not disclosed. The new facility will include the SEA-ME-WE 6 and Al Khaleej cables and will be energized by a solar park owned by Beyon. In addition to a data center and cable landing station (CLS) in Hamala, Batelco maintains a Tier III certified facility to the west of the country in Hamala. The 132,700-square-foot site, which went live in 2021, offers 2.7 MW and space for 250 racks.

In addition, it has a Tier III certified facility in Ras Abu Jarjur on the eastern side of the country, as well as an earth station.
