Amazon AWS: AWS plans to open data center design facility in Zagreb, Croatia

Amazon Web Services has revealed that it wants to open a data center design facility in Zagreb, Croatia. The facility will support the development and operation of AWS Cloud services while focusing on product development, research, and data center design. AWS said it would be using local talent at the facility. IT experts, civil and structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, and solutions architects would be hired locally.

The Croatian Government and AWS also signed a Memorandum of Association to help speed up the use of cloud computing in the public sector. This is to help accelerate the country’s National Development Strategy. The Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, said: “We welcome the news that AWS will be creating a new data center design facility in Zagreb and its continued investment in Croatia. The development of our nation’s digital economy is a priority for this government, and cloud computing is going to play an important role.”

The vice president for public sector at AWS, Isabella Groegor-Cechowicz, also said that the Company is happy to be opening its new data center design facility in Zagreb. She further added that the facility would help create new jobs and support the development and operations of AWS Cloud services in the country.
