Amazon AWS: AWS Plans To Develop a 2.2 Million Square Feet Campus in Gainesville

Amazon is looking to develop a large data center campus in Gainesville, Virginia. The company submitted two special-use permit requests for a 2.2 million square feet data center campus that will sit on 117 acres of land at 5845 and 5945 Wellington Road. Per the company’s requests, it is looking to develop two three-story buildings with 40,400 square meters (435,000 square feet) and 100 feet tall each, two three-story buildings with 34,850 square meters (377,000 square feet) and 100 feet tall each, and two two-story buildings with 24,900 square meters (268,000 square feet) at 75 feet tall each.

Amazon also plans to develop two electrical substations on 4.5 and 5 acres. The company acquired the 58.5-acre plot at 5845 Wellington Road in June 2022 for $87.8 million. This acquisition came after it acquired a 58.5-acre plot at 5945 Wellington Road in April 2021 for $52.4 million.
