Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched new Local Zones in New York City, Las Vegas, and Portland. Local Zones are considered Edge locations that host applications that need low latency to end-users or on-premises installations. Sébastien Stormacq, the Principal Developer Advocate at Amazon Web Services, said the Company is delighted to be opening new Local Zones in Portland, New York, and Las Vegas.

AWS offers services like storage, compute, and database within Local Zones to regions for latency-sensitive applications. Often, this doesn’t require an existing data center footprint. According to AWS, its customers include Proof Trading, Dish, Ubitus, Integral Ad Science, and Esports Engine. The Company says it is working on three other Local Zones in Seattle, Phoenix, and Atlanta before the year works out. It also has existing 14 Local Zones in 13 cities.
