Australia: Australia Plans to Require Government Data To Be Stored In Australian Data Centers

Jun 14, 2021 | Posted by Eric Bell

Plans are in place in Australia to require government data stored in data centers in Australia with adequate certifications. The Digital Transformation Agency manages the certifications of data centers under the new Hosting Strategy. Besides, any facility that wants to host government workloads should either be Certified Strategic or Certified Assured by the Digital Transformation Agency.

Aidan Tudehope, Macquarie Government MD, said keeping sensitive information within Australian borders is essential to protect the country’s privacy and national security. He further added that the government plans to prioritize local cloud and data storage service providers will help improve the country’s digital ecosystem as private sectors will be motivated to invest locally.
