A new data center campus is being proposed just outside of Middlesbrough at the former Croda chemicals plant within the Wilton International complex, it has been announced. So far, Redcar and Cleveland Council has decided that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) isn’t required, after Consultancy Heatons Planning filed for a ‘screening opinion’ last month; however, full planning permission has not yet been requested.
As per the filing, the development, if approved, would include two two-story buildings, with 157,400 sqm (1.7 million sq ft) of total floorspace, as well as a communications building, a two-story office, storage tanks, and two 24 MW emergency back-up biofuel generators. Further to this, while yet to be confirmed, the facilities have flat roofs, meaning that photovoltaic (PV) panels could be added.
As of yet, it has not been announced who is behind the application.
