According to reports, Chinese firm Alibaba is considering setting up a cloud region in Israel. Globes says Alibaba has been considering the move for some years, but the covid-19 pandemic caused the delay. Besides, Alibaba is not thinking about building its own facility; instead, it will be hosting its infrastructure at one of the facilities under construction by companies like Med One, KKR, SDS, ServerFarm, and Global Data Center. According to Globes, Alibaba is not likely to exceed 4MW of capacity in the future.
The closest Alibaba’s cloud region to Israel is in Dubai, UAE. The company has also announced to open new facilities in South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. In addition, it has 25 Availability Zones and 13 available Cloud regions outside of mainland China.
