Ar Telecom has acquired land in Lisbon, Portugal, for a new data center, which it announced on  LinkedIn and in ECO this week. The land acquired by the Portuguese telco is located in the Alfragide area of the city and the data center project has now moved on to the design and licensing phase. Projections are that the project will see an investment of around €10 million ($11.3m).

Speaking about this development in a social media post, the company said: "We've already chosen the location for our new data center. It's in Alfragide, it's going to be 1,400 sqm (15,000 sq ft) and we're counting on it by the end of the year."

The Aire Networks-owned company has outlined that the facility will have 150 racks, and be expandable to 4,200 sqm (45,200 sq ft).

There are 32 data centers in Portugal.
