Adani Group has announced plans to develop 15 GW of renewable power projects over the next few years in Andhra Pradesh, in Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram. This announcement came at a recent investors summit, ‘Global Investors Summit 2023’ held in the state.
According to reports, the state has a renewable energy potential of more than 80 GW. Further, it will also develop 400 MW of data center projects in Visakhapatnam.
Speaking about this, Karan Adani, Chief executive officer (CEO) of Adani Ports & SEZ, said: “These projects will generate more employment opportunities and reflect our commitment to the sustained growth of the state of Andhra Pradesh." Further, he pointed to Andhra Pradesh, which has been highlighted as the best state for energy efficiency in India, as having “great infrastructure, a sizable manufacturing base, skilled young people, and a business-friendly atmosphere.”
While investing in renewable power projects, Adani, has been identified as a serial polluter, and an ecological threat, and has, multiple times, been embroiled in corruption controversies and scandals, its latest being the so-called Adani-Hindenburg crisis.
