Microsoft is planning to invest €6.69 billion ($7.16bn) in developing new data centers in the northeastern region of Aragon, Spain in a deal expected to span over the next 10 years. The regional government of Aragon has said that Microsoft filed for a construction permit to build data centers outside of the city of Zaragoza.

“Microsoft’s new data center region will provide cutting-edge, sustainable, and secure AI solutions for Spain and the rest of Europe,” Spain’s Minister for Digital Transformation, José Luis Escrivá, said. “It is a great satisfaction that Microsoft is once again betting on Spain for the deployment of state-of-the-art infrastructure and services, thus contributing to the positioning of our country at the forefront of digital transformation."

This latest announcement follows Microsoft's launch of its Madrid cloud region - Spain Central which was part of the company's commitment to invest $2.1 billion in Spain between 2024 and 2025. That cloud region was developed in partnership with Telefónica.
