Construction on Skybox Datacenters's 189,000 sq ft (17,600 sq m) facility Elk Grove Village facility is complete, the company has announced. The project, first announced in March 2021, is the company's first outside of Texas and has a capacity of 30MW.

Rob Morris, CEO of Skybox Datacenters, said the facility offers "innovative, sustainable and adaptable turn-key and powered shell solutions" to serve customers in Chicago and beyond.
Reflecting on what the new facility will bring to clients, he said: "This project delivers the scale and the speed our clients need to be competitive in today's economy – and would not be possible without support of ComEd and its continued focus on reliable, sustainable access to support the thriving data center ecosystem in this region."

The facility is, in fact, a retrofit of one of Prologis' existing warehouses. Jeff Folkman, Prologis' Market Officer for Chicago, said the company is "pleased" to have played a part in the project and, looking forward, said that it would strengthen the digital infrastructure in the area.

Powering the facility will be the Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd), which will provide the data center with clean energy. Speaking about this, Gil Quiniones, CEO of ComEd, said: "ComEd is proud to electrify new data centers throughout the region which create jobs and generate investment for the communities we serve."
