Dubai: Moro Hub to build solar-powered data centre in Dubai

Dec 27, 2021 | Posted by MadalineDunn

Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has announced that it has commenced work on a 100MW facility solar-powered data center located at EWA's 3,000MW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

The facility, located southeast of Dubai, will be powered 100% by renewable energy, and as outlined by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, is the “largest green data center in the Middle East and Africa.”

Further to this, he added that the building of this facility is an indication they are “on the right track to achieve the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050” as well as the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050, which seeks to provide 100% of energy from “clean energy sources by 2050.” The build is also in line with the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy to reduce electricity and water demand by 30% by 2030.

Huawei UAE's CEO Steven Yi commented: "Data is quickly becoming the new engine for economic expansion and diversification. As more data center facilities are established in the future, this project serves as an exemplar of combining digital and power electronic technologies to create greener, low-carbon ICT infrastructure powered through renewable energy."
