GSMA STATEMENT ON MWC LOS ANGELES 2020 FROM JOHN HOFFMAN, CEO GSMA LIMITED
15 June 2020, Los Angeles: Since the first edition of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the GSMA has convened the industry, governments, ministers, policymakers, operators and industry leaders across the broader ecosystem. Our expansion to other cities around the world is our commitment to providing platforms for this community that support a continuous dialogue with a spurring of innovation throughout the year.
As a world-class event organiser, we have continued to watch the global trajectory of COVID-19, staying up-to-date with governments and health experts. Last February, in recognition of emerging global circumstances hosting MWC Barcelona, was impossible. Today, in light of current government guidance, continued global concern regarding the spread and containment of COVID-19, travel restrictions and other circumstances, and in consultation with our partner, CTIA, the GSMA announced that continuing with MWC Los Angeles 2020 is likewise, impossible.
While we are disappointed to cancel this event, health and safety remain our top priority, and we will not do anything that could impede or reverse gains made around the world. We are thankful for the medical community, essential workers and those working to eliminate this virus.

WiCOM 2020
WiCOM, the 16th International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing (WiCOM 2020), is an annual conference in China since 2005. This conference was held in Wuhan, Shanghai, Dalian, Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Chongqing from 2005 to 2019. Each year there are 100 - 500 attendees from Asia, Europe, America, etc., and there have been quite a lot of well known experts giving plenary speeches. In 2020, WiCOM will be held in Xi'an, China from Oct. 23-25, 2020. You are invited to submit papers/abstracts in all areas of wireless communications, networking, mobile computing and applications.
Xi'an, is the capital of Shaanxi province, located in central-northwest China, records the great changes of the country just like a living history book. Called Chang'an (meaning the eternal city) in ancient times, it is one of the birthplaces of the ancient Chinese civilization in the Yellow River Basin area. As the eastern terminal of the Silk Road and the site of the famous Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Dynasty, the city has won a reputation all over the world. More than 3,000 years of history including over 1,100 years as the capital city of ancient dynasties, have endowed the city with an amazing historical heritage. Visitors marvel at the numerous historical sites and cultural relics in and around the city.

However, COVID-19 hasn’t stopped the mssaging & SMS industry from providing its vital services to the digital economies of the world, hence it is important that we continue to enable the industry to share insights, meet with peers and vitally form new trade partnerships.
This is why we are incorporating the event into Capacity Europe 2020. The Messaging & SMS track at Capacity Europe enables key stakeholders in the global messaging community to explore the latest developments in areas including RCS, chatbots, A2P, and fraud and security solutions. This stream will highlight the need to continually innovate at a time when SMS has been the preferred communication of choice for enterprises during the Covid-19 pandemic.
