In January 2024, BitCluster became the first Russian company to open a data center in Ethiopia. The newly established infrastructure is equipped to handle 20,000 energy-efficient units, including Bitmain Antminer S21s and Whatsminer M60s, supported by fifty 2,000 kW transformers connected to 80 installed mobile modular data centers.
The data center is entirely powered by renewable energy from the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Africa's largest hydropower project with a 5.15 GW capacity. Its connection to the new Kilinto high-voltage substation (230/33 kV) is expected to ensure a 99% uptime for uninterrupted power.
