Google has announced that, through its subsidiary, Eleanor Applications SRL, it has acquired 30 hectares of land in Canelones, Uruguay, to build a data center. According to El Observador, the company may have spent $818,000 on the plot, with a view to invest up to $100 million.

The tech company first outlined plans to build data centers in the region last year under the name “Project Teros”.

Speaking about the land purchase, the company said: “We are very excited to be able to grow our presence in Uruguay. Although the prospects for the project are encouraging, several instances are still pending before we can confirm the construction of the infrastructure center”.
