According to The Sunday Business Post, TikTok plans to lease space at the Echelon data center campus in Clondalkin for its new Irish data center. According to the different sources of the Sunday Business Post, TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, will use the Clondalkin campus as its main European data center when it finally opens. TikTok first announced its plans for an Ireland data center in August 2020 after privacy concerns from the US on how it handles data.
However, TikTok has reportedly spent €420 million ($500m) on the Clondalkin facility. It is also scheduled to open before the year runs out. Echelon’s Clondalkin campus has a total data center space of 477,000 square feet (44,000 square meters) and a capacity of up to 84MW.
