Silicon Valley Power will build a new substation for AWS’s upcoming data center in Santa Clara. Oppidan Investment Company will develop and pay for the data center facility on behalf of Amazon Web Services. Besides, Amazon acquired the site for $100 million in 2020, which will make it AWS’s first data center in Santa Clara. Moreover, the data center project will have two separate buildings. The first phase will have 285,768 square feet of space, while the second phase will have 229,974 square feet of space.

Furthermore, each building will have a power capacity of 49.5MVA (60.8 MW). Besides, the grid infrastructure present will not be enough for the data centers. In light of this, a 60kV substation and a 9MVA interim service are a necessity. Unity Silicon Valley Power will build these. Not only that, but Unity Silicon Valley Power will also upgrade AWS’s 230kV, 115kV, and 60kV transmission lines.
