Site History:

601 W Polk was originally constructed in 1917 and served as a warehouse and distribution center for Marshall Field’s. The same physical attributes that served the iconic department store continue to benefit the building today. High ceilings, expansive column space, heavy floor loading and a bunker-like construction have allowed our historic building to adapt to a very modern use case.
In the 1990s Sprint established a network point of presence at 601 W Polk. This activity marked a distinct change in the evolution of the property that was continued when Adelphia Communications later acquired the site. Adelphia spent a substantial amount of money upgrading the building infrastructure and adding numerous, diverse fiber entrance facilities in order to create a “carrier hotel.”

Despite Adelphia’s demise the groundwork was in place for Polk to complete its transformation into a state-of-the-art data center facility. In recent times the facility has been home to a range of enterprise and tech companies including members of the Fortune 500, global law firms and hosting companies. In late 2011, AlteredScale purchased the building and began construction of 25,000 square feet of highly available colocation space. Thanks to a unique history and robust architecture 601 W Polk is positioned for growth and occupancy well into the future. [r1]
